I was alone

I was alone
far from my native land
failure daily stalked
my weary footsteps
I turned and saw my child
stride past me
into tomorrow’s unknown world...

He had not time
to bear with me today
the future called him
he ripped aside
the dusty curtain of despair
his youthful blaze shone
into the surrounding gloom

Then he turned in haste
but childlike beckoned me
to follow
with eager fearless steps

I hurried forward
took his hand
letting him lead me to the threshold
of his bright promising world
looking behind me now
I see the firm footprints
a testament to his future...
